Fear

In love, poem, poetry on March 24, 2014 at 5:32 pm

I can’t love you because you’re not young.
I can’t love you because you’re not beautiful.
I can’t love you because you’re not rich.
I can’t love you because you don’t have a nice car.
I can’t love you because you don’t have a good job.
I can’t love you because you’re not of my faith.
I can’t love you because you don’t belong to the same political party.
I can’t love you because you’re not physically perfect.
I can’t love you because you are short.
I can’t love you because you’re fat.
I can’t love you because you snore.
I can’t love you because my family wouldn’t approve.
I can’t love you because I’m too busy making lists of reasons why I can’t love you.
I can’t love you because I don’t really know what love is.
I can’t love you because I don’t really love myself.
I can’t love you because, as much as I want love, it scares me to death.
I can’t love you because, despite all my fears, my can’ts, I might love you anyway.
